1) Mission Statement: The San Diego Creative Weavers’ Guild, a non-profit group established in 1947, is one of two fiber guilds in the county and the primary resource for people in the region who seek information on handweaving, handspinning, braiding, basketry and related textile or fiber arts. Most members of the public are unaware of “textile arts” and probably give little thought to how fabrics, upholstery, garments, linens and other fiber-based household decorations are produced. Our outreach program seeks to educate the public and to provide information to interested groups and individuals.

2) Areas of Expertise: SDCWG’s members are familiar with the following areas of textile and fiber arts:

· General Weaving · Computerized Weaving · Spinning (wheel, spindle)

· Tapestry · Braiding · Dyeing

· Felting · Basketry · Knitting and Sewing

3) Activities and Services Available:

Available to the public:

· Demonstrations and lectures for schools and civic service groups

· Equipment, textile and fiber identification and information

· References for private lessons and other educational resources

· References for equipment repair, fiber processing and textile arts services

Additional services available to SDCWG members:

 · Workshops, lessons, tutorials, mentoring, master weaver self-study program

· Equipment rental of floor and table looms, spinning wheels, and related supplies

· Extensive library of weaving, spinning, braiding and basketry texts and history

· Involvement in local artisan fairs, festivals, fashion shows, guild seminars and meetings
